Congratulations! You just finished this week’s material on parenting strategies for managing challenging behaviors. Below are some summary points to take away:=

1. Children and adolescents with anxiety may also have challenging behavior. This can cause problems throughout the day, especially when children face situations that make them feel scared or anxious.
2. One way to understand how challenging behavior is learned is through using the ABC Model.
3. The ABC model involves looking at “antecedents” (triggers for the behavior, or what happens right before), “behaviors” (what the child does), and “consequences” (how an adult responds to the behavior after it happens).
4. Once you figure out the antecedents for challenging behavior, you can start making a plan to prevent the challenging behavior.
5. Prevention strategies can be put in place in order to prevent challenging behaviors from happening.
