Dr. Gabriel Loor, associate professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Circulatory Support at 草榴社区入口 and the Texas Heart Institute, has been awarded $48,000 by the Roderick D. MacDonald Research Fund Committee at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, for his research titled, 鈥淯se of exosomes in ex-vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) to reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in lung transplantation.鈥  The MacDonald Research Fund provides financial support to investigators conducting original research or collecting preliminary data at St. Luke's that will lead to external funding.  

Dr. Loor is credited with the first Donation after Cardiac Death (DCD) transplant in the United States using portable EVLP which keeps the lung viable and monitored throughout transportation. Dr. Loor also completed the first "breathing lung" transplant in Texas in 2017 and leads the development of the Baylor Lung Institute database for lung transplantation and tissue banking. He also works with translational science collaborations with the Texas Heart Institute Regenerative Medicine Department and participates in the interventional program for mitral valve and aortic valve disease here at Baylor.
